In-depth safety analysis
This image downloader requests broad permissions that let it read and alter data on any website, download files, inject scripts, and monitor or modify network requests. For an extension designed to find and save images from any page, such host access is expected, but the combination of , scripting, and webRequest gives it far-reaching capability that goes beyond just scanning for images.
As with any tool that can see all your browsing content, a careful user should consider that even well‑intentioned image downloaders can be cloned or imitated. In this category, an extension with full site access could potentially view private information displayed on pages, and if it were ever compromised, that access might be misused. High user ratings alone do not eliminate that inherent risk, but they do indicate a track record of satisfied users with no widespread reported issues.
The strongest safety dimension for Imageye is its community reputation, reflected in 2 million users and a 4.9‑star rating across 16,400 reviews — a strong signal of trust and reliability from a large user base. The weakest dimension is permissions and access, because the broad host access and powerful APIs like webRequest and scripting increase the potential impact of any future vulnerability or supply‑chain risk.
AI-assisted analysis of the documented signals above (permissions, store data, privacy practices) — explains what they mean and the risks typical for this category. Not a hands-on test.
