Is Downloader for Instagram - Download Reels, Story & Highlights Safe? — Extension Safety Profile

This extension requests the ability to read and alter data on all pages you visit on Instagram (host access to *.instagram.com) and on the domain qooly.com. It also asks for webRequest, which lets it observe and potentially modify network requests, the downloads API to save files to your device, and storage for saving local settings. For a tool that promises to download videos, stories, and highlights, needing access to Instagram page content and the ability to initiate downloads is expected and typical.

General caution for any social-media downloader: such extensions can see everything you do on the targeted platform, including private posts if you are logged in. They may also inject scripts or redirect requests through external servers. Users should be careful with unofficial tools, as they are common targets for cloning or repackaging with unwanted ads or tracking, and their functionality may break when the platform changes how media is served. Verify the extension came from an official store listing and review the publisher’s other offerings.

Our assessment shows the strongest dimension is Maintenance & Ownership, suggesting the extension is actively updated and its package integrity is well-managed. The weakest dimension is Publisher & Identity, indicating limited available transparency about the developer “Image Downloader.” This doesn’t imply wrongdoing, but it means users have less public information to verify the publisher’s background. A careful user could look for additional community reviews over time to supplement that insight.
